Greenshore received a small upgrade with a new house located just west of the luxurious house with the yellow floor, which was rentable. Also, to the west of Castle of Greenshore was a new guildhall called Greenshore Clanhall which offered 10 beds and was two stories high and had a basement. Like most halls at the time the basement featured a large sleeping quarters and storage room located down a ladder. The first floor was five rooms which were a mix of living spaces and bedrooms. A ladder took you to the second floor which had three bedrooms and a library with a red carpet.
In Carlin a new furniture store opened to the northeast of the Seaside Hotel. NPC Nydala would now offer furniture to buy for your new house. Just outside of the east and west gates were two new guild halls.
The west hall could be found outside the city gates along the water's edge. This hall, called House of Recreation, featured yellow floor tile throughout the building. The first floor was divided into four rooms, with the southmost having a library which had an attached small room with a bed and a red carpet. Heading down the stairs took you to a basement with a large room with a massive keg (is this here). A large room with beds and a small storage room to the south could also be found here. Taking the stairs to the second floor led to four more rooms, some of which had beds and the larger southeast room which had a large table and casks. A staircase took you up to the next floor to a small side library and an adjoining sleeping quarter. To the south was a huge rooftop garden which overlooked the ocean. A final staircase led to the roof garden which had trees, a fountain, and even a pilar with a coal basin for light.
On the east side of Carlin, just beyond the cemetery was another guild hall called Moonkeep. This hall featured a large dirt area at the entrance with a large stone monument in the middle. This floor had three rooms with the west room containing casks. Stairs took you to the basement which featured a huge room to the north with 11 beds and two smaller rooms on the east side. If you took the stairs up, you would find three small rooms with beds and a large porch area that overlooked the courtyard below. A ladder in the hall led to the third floor which was a library in a small room.
Many guilds had sprung up in Tibia during this time even though there was no formal guild system to identify them in game. CIP was planning a big guild specific update and wanted there to be plenty of guildhalls for players to inhabit. Though it is difficult to get a real idea of all the halls which were added due to how the main site was coded, and due to how the upper layer of the map is not saved, we do know some of the halls which were added based on maps. Most of these halls would have been added at launch, but we do know based on the news that a further four halls from Kazordoon and Carlin come in a second update a month later on November 20th, 2001.
North of Carlin was a new guild hall which had an interesting design like Spiritkeep in Thais. This hall sat in the upper area of the plains above Carlin though not much was here. Called Nordic Stronghold, it had 21 beds across the three-story structure which also had a basement. The first floor had a dirt cloister upon entering and a large hall with a red carpet sat to the west and north was a large room of beds. The east side staircase would take you up and down and two small rooms could be found to the south. In the basement was several small rooms which mostly had beds though there were rooms which could be used for storage. On the second floor you could head to the south wall which was an open rampart. Three single bedrooms could be seen to the west and a small library connected the west and east sides of the castle in a small north hallway. A ladder took you to a large kitchen table which had a cooking area and casks. From here a small library was in the northeast corner which had a two-bed private room to the south.
All the way in Northport was another new guildhall with 19 beds. This hall, called Seawatch, was at the edge of the water in the northeast part of town. It had a spacious interior on the first floor with a sort of throne room. A set of stairs took you to the bulk of the hall's beds and another staircase took you up to the second floor. This floor had a large side room to the west and a vantage point to look down at the throne room. Stairs leading up to the third floor took you to 6 rooms, most of which had beds. This hall was a nice out of the way place where guilds who used it would train outside as it was away from troublemakers and it was easy to lure creatures to train with.
South of Ab'dendrial was a large hall named Shadow Towers which was off the beaten path at the end of a strip of land. Sporting 18 beds, the hall had a multiroom interior with an odd white marble room to the north facing the ocean. The hall didn't have a basement but spanned upwards multiple floors. A staircase at the entrance took you to an area on the second floor which was open to the outside. There was a large room to the north which had some casks, and a room to the east which had a couple of beds and a bookshelf. To the west were several beds together in their own room. Taking the staircase in the open room led to a roof like area at the back of the castle. From here you could enter two towers, one east and the other west, which had beds and a ladder would take you up each of the towers. The west tower was only one level but had more beds and taking the ladder up the east tower led to a library and up another ladder led to several small storage rooms.
Though we can't say for certain, we do know that the two Kazordoon guild halls were implemented in Beta 6. The Marble Guildhall was located south of the barracks had 17 beds. On the first floor you had 5 small rooms, two of which had beds, one room was a kind of a blacksmith area with anvil, and another had a stove and some casks. A large room with white pillars could be found on the west side of the area. Taking the stairs by the entrance led to two small storage rooms and two rooms to the south with four beds each. The basement was also accessed by stairs and had 6 room, four of which had beds, and one was a library.
On the way to the emperor you would find the other hall which had 17 beds and was called the Granite Guildhall. This hall had a first floor the same as the previous hall, but the white columns were replaced by knight statues. The basement was a recreation of the first floor of the other hall, as was the second floor though the two storage rooms were north and east instead of west and east.
South of Kazordoon on the plains heading towards PoH was a hall called Wolf Tower which sat at the top of the river before crossing over into the east side of the map. This hall had 23 beds and I believe was the first home of the Du'Vark family. The first floor of the hall had 6 rooms and a ladder which took you to the room below containing some beds and a storage room. Up the ladder on the first floor took you to many beds in a room to the south, and a large storage room was accessible to the west. Another ladder took you to a large room to the south and a small kitchen to the west which had some casks. If you went up the ladder, you would find three more rooms which each had beds and a ladder leading to the roof. This roof was an open rampart, but also had a small room in the center with a door to the north. Inside was a ladder which led to a watch tower above.
East of Thais was a new hall along the river which was called Bloodhall and would be the clan home of the Black Dragon guild. The first floor had a large library to the southeast and two small rooms along the west side. A small room to the east provided access to the other floors with a ladder to the basement leading to a medium size storage room and a bizarrely arranged 8 bedroom to the west. Taking the ladder in the small room on the first floor up led to an area like the Wolf Tower kitchen which had a large table and kitchen room in the north which had casks. A ladder in the small room took you to the same layout as the other hall's sleeping quarters, providing four bedrooms and a ladder which led to the roof. The roof was exactly like Wolf complete with a middle room and ladder leading to small roof area above. This hall had a total of 16 beds which was smaller than the other hall.
In Edron a new hall was added in Stonehome, just south of the dock which was called Stonehome Clanhall and had 10 beds. This hall had a large room with a red carpet to the southeast and was surrounded by 5 smaller rooms. A ladder at the entrance would take you to the basement which had a small storage room to the south and two rooms with beds to the east. Another ladder in a smaller room on the first floor took you to the second floor which had six rooms.
Also added to Stonehome was a new large twelve room flat immediately to the south of the town entrance which spanned two floors. This flat greatly added to the number of rooms people could live in on the island and Edron was a very desirable place for people to live.
The strange island by Carlin which might have been an early GM island was now gone and a new GM island appeared just south of Carlin. Only GMs on their tool character could access the place which had a large two-story house with a huge library on the second floor. To access it a GM had to use the command Alani "home" which would take them to the island. Hidden to the west of the main building was a hole which dropped you into a secret torture dungeon. There was switch which might have created an energy field on the chair like an electric chair, but this was only just a rumor. Further rumor states that Guido was seen sneaking into this dungeon late at night and the following day several deletions were announced. Jeremy the well-known PK was TPed here once by Guido and killed, but he is the only player I know of to reach the island, even if it was briefly.
With the launch of this update also came several smaller changes such as the new furniture stores which were run by NPCs who would sell you a parcel version of an item which could be opened to deploy the marked item. These new stores were independently run by NPCs Eddy, Gamon, Iwar, Ukea, Nydala, Vera, Edvard, and Yoem who could be found in every town.
Also changed was the broadcast spell which would no longer appear in the adventure screen anymore, reducing the spam but not solving the problem. Broadcasts would still appear in the main channel which would annoying continue to displace private messages, yells, normal conversion, and any other text that you might have wanted to read before the Broadcast erased it. This annoyance was increasingly leading to conflicts and further spam as those who missed important messages would broadcast for the player to private message them again, further increasing the spam.
On January 7th, 2002 Tibia celebrated its fifth birthday. To commemorate the event a Shield of Honor, a new and pretty decent shield, was offered to players who signed up for a 7 month premium account by January 31st. This was the first and only time CIP would offer an in game item for premium as players hated the idea of paying for advantage in these early years and complained loudly on the forum. The shield was even better then the already in demand Crown Shield and the next best shield was the MM which very pricy (180k). Players jumped to buy premium to get the shield which would sell for 30k when they were ready to transition to the next shield. At the end of the event CIP would mail the shield to your home depot. This shield can sell for upwards of 500million making those who held onto the rare item very wealthy even today.
Due to the short time between Edron and Cormaya updates it's difficult to pinpoint specific items that came with the Cormaya update. The only new item that I can confirm launched this update was the Snowball which was a fun addition to the game. These could be found by clicking on the new snow heaps which appeared in all of Tibia's cities. Each click gave you a single white ball which counted as a distance weapon and was .8 of an ounce. You could equip the snowballs and fire them at other players though they had zero attack. These were very easy to farm and provided a quick way to level up your distance attack which angered players as they felt Paladins were still too strong. CIP heard the complaints and distance gain from using them was removed. Despite the change players still made snowballs to throw at each other.
The Christmas Tree was also added which would become a welcome fixture in players houses over the holidays. Buying the tree produced a furniture package which looked like a parcel but this could be opened anywhere, and once deployed it behaved like any other piece of furniture allowing players to become trapped.
Fortunately Christmas cheer was at an all-time high in 2001 but a holiday wouldn't be the same without a splash of violence. That violence came with the return of Santa who was played by Knightmare. The sprite for Santa didn't line up well in the battle menu so it looked tiny compared to the avatar. CIP had decided to scrap the Christmas Peace from the previous year due to the backlash which meant the Tibian population would be extra violent this year. Santa visited several towns without incident, but this would be short lived when he went to Kazordoon. The mob is Tibia and Santa proved quite mortal when he was PKed by a group of players hoping to get some free rare items. I recall Santa making an angry BC before logging out in a huff - no more presents for Tibian's this year. Future Santa would now be immortal.
Until this point there had only been one world for players to play. On December 19th, 2001, this changed with the launch of the new gameworld Nova. This server, located in Europe, was identical to the main Tibian game world which was now called Antica. The only difference was anyone who wanted to play there had to start a new character and would also not have the legacy items that would make Antica unique until world transfers.
Players loved the idea of getting away from Antica and striking their own path. Many of Antica's notable players left to create a new future there and it was at this point that the community began to fracture away from its close-knit group mentality. It's likely that most of those leaving also left because of the serious overcrowding of the server, as it was difficult to get hunting spots and sometimes to even log in.
The history of Tibia to this point has been the history of Antica. Due to how many worlds which would come to exist, I will continue to only cover the events which occurred on Antica. In some rare cases I will touch upon the events of other servers but I leave the history of those specific worlds, which you may inhabit, up to perhaps you to chronicle. Though I have played many servers over the years, I have found Tibia's original world to be unique, having its own distinctive culture. Despite the number of other servers, Antica still remains the most popular server in Tibia even 25 years after its introduction.
