The Soldiers of Justice (SoJ) was founded on January 7th, 2000 by Merlino and some friends who envisioned an alliance with the citizens of Thais to fight against evil. This guild would fight for those who were weak, rally against lured monsters, and punish the evil which was made manifest in game. The name they chose was not at first SoJ but the Golden Warriors, but Virgil (1st Knight) informed them that the past guild he ran had been called that once, so they decided to go with SoJ instead. Their guild would hold 3 convents sacred:
"1. Always help each other when in need.
2. Always be honest and never steal.
3. Never kill people without a good reason."
Those who wished to join the guild had to be at least level 10 and not have a reputation for doing bad things in the past. They would be required to register at the SoJ boards and write about themselves before being chosen for the guild. After a month as a recruit the five council members would vote to see if you deserved full membership, with 4 yes votes confirming the appointment. If another SoJ member had an objection, then your admission would be denied. During this time, you had to bring you level to level 15 or higher to qualify for the vote otherwise the vote would be delayed until you achieved that level.
As a member you couldn't PK and could only kill another player who wronged you directly, was listed on their death list, was a close friend who was wronged, was a known random PK or thief, or if they engaged in extreme spamming. Any special case was to be reported to a council member to decide if it was ok t kill.
Those joining had to be loyal to the guild and couldn't join any others. To prove your loyalty, you had to also be active in game, on the boards, or through ICQ. Skipping guild functions was frowned on. Your loyalty also had to be with others of guild, so if another guild member was in trouble you had to help them.
There was also a cost to be in the guild in the form of a fee. Players were charged 10gp for each of their levels which had to be sent on the 10th of the month to Zorott. Late fees were double that amount, and expulsion if you hadn't paid by the start of the next month.
The guild required some other unique rules such as you were forbidden from swearing at other players. Should you come across a body you were required to save the loot if possible and never loot anything that wasn't yours such as a monster you didn't kill. Punishment for rule breaks could be fines or expulsion from the guild.
The structure of the guild had the Leader at the top, who was voted in. Four council members were below him which made up the Council. Below this was the Warriors of Justice and Mage of Justice which acted as a sort of squad leader. Soldiers made up the bulk of the members with recruits filling up the entry rank. There was ranks for honorary and inactive members too.
From what I have seen it looks like the guild lasted into 2001 and formed many allies with good aligned guilds like the Red Rose, SPQT, HALC, and a pending alliance with AFT and AOL. I also found their guild story interesting which can be found
