The AFT (Alliance of Free Tibians) put on a rare spectacular the likes of which was never seen before. Taghor decided it was time to show Tibia what real rares were so after the 7.0 update the Tibianic Expedition was launched which lasted for a weekend near the end of 2002. For a fee of 100gp you where able to go down and look at the rarest items in all of Tibia, and at that time these all where rare!
This is the lounge before the show. I was wanted to drink in the experience so I enjoyed some time with the other folks who had decided to come to see the show as well as some of the contributors like Lightbringer was a major rare collector, so most of the rares where his. If you noticed that old letter in my hand it is the letter that each person received when they paid their fee. Inside was a log of the exhibit items and the Tibanics contributors (only the names, not which items they owned). Note the comment made by LB, it was actually possible to kill a person with a summoned dear, you just needed them to be naked and AFK for a very long time ;)
Those god-awful dots and lines on my screen is an effect called "dithering." At the time I was using an old computer which had a bad graphics card so the fancy light effects called shade and shadow didn't work and this was the result. I had this annoying crap for about a year before I finally caved and bought a new card. Note: The guild Celebnoli was still alive then, a very well known guild to be good and peace oriented, run by GM Elosyadar, one of my very good friends now retired.
Warlocks where very new so though they dropped the Wand of Might, it was still somewhat rare though not as impressive as the other items.
Here is the Elven wand. It was one of the nicer rares and pretty unique. I believe this was a once a map reset spawn were the Fire Devils and Dragon are been Thais and PoH but I am not sure.
Not an incredible rare, but still impressive (this was before we found out that Ghosts droped them).
This was seen as rare as players didn't know that Priestess droped them.
The Yellow Spell Wand was the rarest wand in the entire game, only one existed and it was owned by LB. This was a wand he discovered himself.
The Red Spell Wand was a Rare Fire Devil drop at the time and sold for 10k or more. There was only one or two spawns of Fire Devils very few players even encountered them.
Behemoths dropped the Green Spell Wand but as a recent addition they were still largely avoided due to their difficulty, so this wand was still rare then.
The blue spell wand, an Orc Shaman drop was entirely unrare and only got into this rare ship because it completed the wand set. Note: For some reason I'm missing the wooden wand. This wand was very rare and I think it spawned on the Island of Mist in PoH once per map reset. After Paradox Tower's introduction it was briefly obtainable as one of the rewards for solving the quest. Until all the rod and wands were changed into an early version of what we have today, no longer nice to look at but functional as mage weapons.
Back before crystal or platinum existed, monsters use to drop all their gold in a single pile. When the Dragon Lord was introduced it was designed to drop more gold then a Dragon but unfortunately the game wasn't coded yet to split it up, so some stacks of more than 100 could be found. Very few stacks like this exist and you will never see any on public display again as moving them even inside a backpack will unstack the pile and kill the rare.
The absolute most rarest instrument. LB was given this as a gift. Pepelu was known to possess a set and I believe one other too. Note the absence of a Grey Tome, for some reason either of the two lenders were not able to be reached in time for the Exhibition, so sadly it is not on display.
Now we are getting to the good stuff. Also note that I am wearing a Platinum Amulet, this was during the time of 100% item loss so if I died I could lose my entire set so this was a huge risk. Every rare wearer took this risk and we had to be wary of getting Pked.
That's your classic E-bomb with its 15 shots. This rune covered almost the entire screen in energy fields so it was very powerful. Only Spiritguide had this spell, which he obtained by Spellscroll from the Gods for reporting a bug.
This was Ferumbras loot, which was owned or looted by Bubble during the Ferumbras event.
This 0 shot SD is kind of a glitch. The runes that were used by Ferumbras were specially created by Durin to have 100 shots but once the stack was used up the rune didn't disappear. The rune could not be shot.
Absolute power, this rune was called the Creature burn and it was very rare as it was an experimental rune. This was another Ferumbras loot item. Using this created a strong and very long tasting fire effect which was a killer in pvp. Since its reintroduction it has become the Soulfire rune.
This was perhaps the only star amulet in existence and an item I desperately wanted to own. It's beauty was only paralleled by its outrageously unnameable market price. This spawned once per map reset in the Mintwallen Mad Mage backroom. Now it's common to the point of worthlessness.
Finally a rare that is still rare! No idea where it came from, but this bronze chastity belt thing has yet to become popular quest chest item. I am unsure which legends are true about this item as its history is entirely a mystery. I do know it has been given away for major events like the Tibiaball League and as some fansite promotions.
Another rare that actually remains rare. This isn't Mino loot or troll loot, this is an actual silver necklace and its very expensive. Only a few of these baddies exist and you'll rarely see one on display - especially these days. It is often confused for the common Silver necklace, but it is very much a real rare item. I do know it has been given away for major events like the Tibiaball League and as some fansite promotions.
The first crystal wand in game owned by Warrax. He was the first to nab it when Knightmare decided to dump a Crown and a Crystal Wand in Thais temple. Theirs a pic and story of this in the history of added items section. It's become a common quest loot item in Demonia now.
An old friend, this is of course the Thunder Hammer after CIP nurfed the stats on it. This hammer was owned by Pytru before it was sold for an undisclosed fat wad of cash. He showed me his whole set on the floor of the Warlock Hero spawn for something to do. This hammer is still outrageously rare and sickeningly priced, good luck finding one for anything less than 5 sultan treasure rooms!
A beautiful piece of jewelry. It was not really rare then but still not commonly seen. The wedding ring market went under the day warlocks started dropping these bad boys. I can't even fathom the prices people where paying to get a hold of a set of these for their loved ones when they first came out. Warlocks were not hunted often and the drop rate on these was very low.
The Blue Robe was another Warlock rare loot drop that was not very common. The lightness of the armor was a mage's dream.
Sort of rare at the time, not much to look at and not entirely impressive.
The Red Rose guild's badge of honor. This item was designed by the Red Rose and CIP would specially make one of the pieces for 100k gold. The item was reserved for those who were truly honorable and only few exist - or so it was before some idiots squawked about fairness and it was turned into a common quest item.
Miraculously the shield has mostly remained exclusive though it no longer bore the RR on it. No shield exists outside of the RR currently.
This is the same crown that was dropped by Knightmare along with the Crystal Wand in Thais temple. The Crown was owned by LB at the time and remains one of a kind to this day.
Not every picture is a Kodac moment, and you can see that I missed the text on this one. But this is my first impression of the ultimate rare room. You really do not want to know the total value of all those rares in this room. A lot of them where outrageously idiotically rare and worth entire accounts of characters depots in gold. Note: See that GM's still show up in my VIP list, this was before CIP had the bright idea of making them invisible to everyone else. Thank you CIP, now it's impossible to see if any of my GM friends are online.
The ultrarare Bright Sword was a very sought after piece by weapon collectors. Only three of these bad boys existed and two of which were owned by GAS and lent to a friend to keep safe. Some friend of the other owner pushed a bag with one of these in it and of course it was stolen, which required a lot of money to be re-bought back.
Ahhh the Winged Helmet, the Helmet of Herms. Still a rare item and not often on display but it's a very nice looking item, in fact that entire "golden set" was beautiful. This was a once per map reset spawn in Thais Lighthouse.
This shield is why everyone came to the Exhibition. Every rare on this boat is nothing compared to the shield. At its implementation, it held an unparalleled defensive power of 50, and remained so until CIP decided to tone down the rares and changed it to 45, then dropped it another 5 points to rest at 40. The shield is still two points better than a Great Shield. The price of this shield is very high indeed. The Cyclops Sword is noticeably absent from this shot as its owner, the thief Alex, refused to give it to Taghor for the Exhibition citing fear that he may return it to Recca who was pressuring the AFT to return it if it landed in any such Exhibition. Its rightful place is where the f-axe is.
This is what the old Mercenary Shield turned into, a funny named and useless shield that looks terrible compared to the Merc relic.
This Might ring was Incredibly rare at the time and featured in many of the treasure rooms around Tibia in early days. The ring held no power yet and was ugly, but sold for a pretty penny. Looks are not everything I guess.
This weapon was rare at the time, before all the hoopla with the Demon Leg quest (Demon Helmet quest). LB was the first to complete this quest and received this among other goodies as the reward. This was a one shot quest which respawned only on map reset.
The Horned Helmet, which was a once per map reset spawn in Outlaw camp. This was very uncommon and fewer of these exist then of the Winged Helmet.
Golden hoop was more the right word, it was a jewellers worst nightmare, a size 600 ring made accidently for a size 6 finger. I know giants who would have an easier time using this as an arm band rather than a ring. CIP finely decided that huge rings where not in style and shrank it down a bit. Your common everyday Demon dropped this on occasion (Demons neither had any use for style or finger jewelry apparently)
Super rare item given by CIP as a gift for great bug reports, not very likely to be found these days. It's a miracle if you even see one of these on the market. I saw one sold in the mid 2000s for around 4million. Too bad its two handed, it would be a wallet smasher otherwise. Weapon listings of this rarity come, like Christmas, once a year. Though these days it's not as rare as it used to be, found as boss loot in some monsters.
I was exhausted after taking so many screenshots of the Exhibition so I decided to rest up before leaving.
As you can see, Alex made his own appearance at the show, not letting his reputation ruin his fun. Overall the event was an awesome experience and I said before I left that I wanted another one sometime in the future. Sometimes lightening does strike twice...
