The monsters which were added to this update were the Dwarf, Dwarfsoldier, Dwarf Guard, Orc Leader, Lion, Wild Warrior, Fire Devil, Witch, and Hero though the Hero only appeared on test servers and was I think summonable. Also, the Warlock was technically added during this time but players were unfamiliar with the creature and they only spawned in game once as an attack on PoH that Bubble mainly cleared, and by Ferumbras in the form of summons. If it was even possible to summon Warlocks, players did not have the mana pool needed to do so. CIP also remarked on their website that "the powers and behaviours of some of the old monsters have changed" and advised player to be cautious. I am not entirely sure what changed for their behavior though.
The most important series of monsters added to the game was the dwarven race which populated the new Kazordoon area. On the way to Kaz you had previously crossed a bridge with orcs but with the change to the area you would now encounter a few Dwarfs which were colored red. These low level creatures offered an easy way to make money but the rest of their loot was nothing worth picking up. They, like all Dwarves, were resistant towards poison like the poison wall, so you couldn't use those to corral the creature but very few players seemed to be using wall runes by this point. Once any of the three dwarven types where killed, the body which replace them was the same for all three, a red dead dwarf style body.
Out of the new Dwarf class, the Dwarfsoldier was more favored. They could be found only in a few spawns and those mostly deeper in the mine or in Dwacatra. These black clothed dwarves dropped the coveted Dwarven Shield which was the best shield for a new character fresh off Rook. You would likely have sold your Copper Shield on Rook before leaving, and then picked one up from Orc Spearmen on main before trying to loot or buy the Dwarven Shield. Despite it being a necessary step in upgrading your equipment, it was utterly worthless as it wasn't sellable to NPCs so players like Sir Seggallion and me would pick these up and stash them in our depot to give away to new players. Dwarfsoldiers would keep their distance from you as they attacked and shoot you with bolts from afar, though their distance attacks were not as deadly as the Hunter.
By far the most important Dwarf added was the Dwarf Guard, though there were so few places that the creature spawned. In later updates it would become the most desired creature to hunt, but for now it was only found in a few small areas underground like deep in the small mine, the few barracks spawns, and in the Dwarven Prison. Three also spawned in the Kaz Treasureroom, which was the highest concentration of them. These creatures could not be snuck past by casting invisible so you had no choice but to fight them and they were very strong. Despite the difficulty, players enjoyed killing these creatures as the loot and experience were phenomenal. They dropped the Steel Helmet which sold for 293 GP in Kaz and many of their other lootable items were sellable for reasonable prices, making them an excellent source of money.
With the addition of Orc Fort, which was populated with many Orcs, there was also a new Orc added, the Orc Leader. This very strong orc could shoot a throwing knife from a distance but would primarily attack up close. Most players didn't like killing these as much as their more profitable brethren the Orc Berserker, but those who hunted the Leaders sometimes were awarded with a very rare Warrior Helmet which was the best non rare helmet in game which sold for 20k. Nothing else dropped this good helmet which most players used as the next helmet up was the very pricy HotS which was selling for upwards of 600k.
The Desert Dungeon quest area deep below the west side of PoH was home to the new Fire Devil creature which was a fire resistant mage like imp which yelled iconic phrases like "Hot, eh?" and "Hell, oh hell!" There were only three spawns in the whole game which all existed in this dungeon and were rarely over three creatures each spawn. Killing these could drop the very rare Red Spell wand or, though unknown to most players, the ultra-rare Steel Boots which was the best boots in game. Maybe half a dozen of these boots dropped before the loot was removed. Like the Great Shield in DL, so few players found proof of this drop that it existed as rumor. Most of the time the loot was very bad and killing them could be dangerous in groups due to their explosion spell which was used often. Fire Devils would keep their distance and run away from you when nearly dead which made them annoying to hunt down.
Just below the Desert Dungeon area was the Outlaw Camp which saw the introduction of another new creature, the Wild Warrior which was a human like enemy. Their distinctive grey uniform was unlike any avatar players could choose so most realized it was a monster, but that didn't stop some players from yelling about a Wild Warrior PK in Outlaw Camp which only elicited chuckles from the rest of the community. Part of the confusion likely was that the body they spawned was the same one as players upon death. These were easy to kill and appeared only on the surface map in Outlaw Camp. The camp was not very difficult in this early stage as the resident Hunter monster only resided below the camp, not inside of it at this time. Their loot was mostly gold and some equipment, but they did drop the really rare War Hammer which was a good two handed weapon for mages.
Witches also made their debut in game, though there were very few spawns of this creature. They were found entirely inside the Greenclaw Swamps, and then only in the deepest parts. Clad in black in the traditional view of witches, they would yell spell sounding phrases as they attacked you from a distance. Their fire field spell would leave a fire field behind on the spot you were standing which caused you to burn for a short length of time. Like the Fire Devil they also ran away when close to death. Their loot was utterly abysmal though they did drop the Silver Dagger which was considered a rare decorative item at the time.
WoT lists the Hero as a creature which could exist at this time but I believe this was only true on the test server. I don't think any player had the necessary level to summon one and they definitely didn't appear on the map yet. Though they would later drop Crown equipment when added officially, for now Crown equipment was a supper rare only held by a few players.
